Did you know council house tenants could be ordered to move if the new coalition PM gets his way? As potential party policies are discussed
There's a continuing trend of growth in the buy-to-let market as Northern Rock cut their lending rates by just over half a percent last Friday.
@ BTL True, I also read in this mornings Sunday Times that "...Landlords have also been encouraged by a rise in rents and yields. Rents rose 2.3% inthe second quarter of the year and, at an average of £840 a month, as at their highest level since January 2009" - The Sunday Times Nwsppr 15/08/10
The CML (Council of Mortgage Lenders) reckon BTL mortgages account for about 12% of outstanding mortgages. Now to put this into perspective that's about 1.3 million mortgages worth £149 million pounds!!
A temporary shortage of housing stock last year created a mini-boom in house prices.
Your comment "Students want double bedrooms, big kitchens and cheap rents" is spot on! Students also want top be close the the universities and/ or the city centre.
@ "I need student accomodation in September" Thanks for your comments. Yes I agree. According to our hot property letting agents the student market can very lucrative at the top end, however many students are on a budget and would also like a good choice of room types in shared flats as well as studios for independent living.
But above all the majority want prices to include utility bills, internet access and contents insurance. Thanks for sharing :-)
Good post! In the past Student housing was seen as a recession-proof investment by landlords. Guardian columnist Julia Kollewe gets her point across in today's Guardian newspaper when she writes "For a long time, living in tiny rooms was seen a rite of passage for fresher" But now privately managed blocks like Nido Spitalfields, developed by Blackstone (a private equity firm) offering high spec apartments for undergraduates is big business
"Landlords hit by huge fees on new loans" - Daily Mail 18/08/10
Depsite what you read in the press, UK Landlords are being asked to pay whopping great mortgage fee. Although 24,900 buy-to-let mortgages we're approved in the last 3 months many landlords had to put down 30% deposits to get halfway decent mortgage deal. That's a massive £67 grand on £224,647 house which is the average uk home according to 'hot property facts and figures')
